DC Beekeepers Support Sentinel Hive Project!

The DC Beekeepers Alliance energetically supports a time-sensitive crowdfunded honeybee health pilot program run by the University of Maryland with the BeeInformed Partnership: the Sentinel Hives Project. You can hear what we had to say about it in WAMU's MetroConnection as well.

In an eight-hive pilot, the team will place honey bee hives with hive scales, pollen traps, and disease analysis tools that will regularly be measured and updated to online datasites available to local beekeepers. This means that local beekeepers will have access to professionally gathered, regular, consistent and reliable data as we make individual decisions about how to manage our bees.

Healthy, productive bees depend on helpful, informed decisions by the beekeeper: we are all definitely in this together! Please consider a small donation to help us all do a better job with our bees and a greener DC future!
